Collector Ashlene Roberts scours Toronto in search of the “lost dresses of the ’70s.” Her team steam cleans the finds and a tailor mends any flaws. From streetwise tweens to drag queens, customers look for one-of-a-kind dresses for everyday wear ($30–$100) or glam nights ($100–$200). Roberts doesn’t care about designer labels—a funky vibe is more important. Typical are ’50s-style evening wear ($50–$200) with silk chiffon and crinoline underneath or ’80s-style light polyester or cotton dresses. With forgiving cuts and a preferred tailor two-doors down, the stock caters to a variety of body types.
